First I'll be a mother...

This is my favorite poem.
I first read it from Rocks In My Dryer

and it has never left my mind.
I hope you enjoy it too!

First I'll Be A Mother...
Some houses try to hide that fact
That children shelter there.
Ours boasts of it quite openly--
The signs are everywhere.
For smears are on the windows,
Little smudges on the doors.
I should apologize, I guess,
For toys strewn on the floor.
But I sat down with the children
And we played and laughed and read.
And if the bathtub doesn't shine
There eyes will shine instead.
For when, at times, I'm forced to choose
The one job or the other,
I want to have a lovely house,
But first I'll be a mother.

I find myself not being able to do both! but Just enough to make things run ok and then it's time to take them to the park:)
They've been sleeping in though since it's summer so maybe I should use that as a chance to do some scrubbing!
